This is How Four Women #BreaktheBias as Business Leaders
3 min read
Here at Sleek, we are huge advocates of women in business, and we’re proud to highlight five women who break biases every day in this realm. This year’s International Women’s Day theme is gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow. As such, you’ll hear from leaders who tackle issues that revolve around sustainability as well as women empowerment as a whole.
Stephanie Dickson, Founder of Green is the New Black
As the founder of a media company that focuses on sustainability, Stephanie prides herself on her work as a founder.
Although she’s encouraged by all who dedicate their lives, expertise and passion to solving the world’s most pressing issues, she gives due credit to intrepreneurs, people who spur change from within organizations.
“Ask yourself first can I make more change within the system than outside it? Often people don’t realize how much they can change to help their companies be more sustainable from the inside out and be intrepreneurs. If there is an idea that you can’t not pursue, build it on the side until you can’t anymore and then take the plunge. It’s a journey that has a lot of twists and turns but it can be incredibly rewarding and impactful.”
Cheraine Escott, Co-Founder & CEO of Staffroom
The International Women’s Day 2022 campaign theme is #BreaktheBias. Cheraine shares her experience with biases in the business world and how she combats them through her company.
“IWD to me is an opportunity to reflect on how women are supported in our community, and what we can do to improve that support to provide equal opportunities for all women. My startup focuses on teachers, and our mission is to support all women in our community to land their dream job, whether that is teaching or moving into a leadership role in schools.
What empowers me is providing value and helping them learn the skills necessary so that they land their dream job!”
Mimi Nguyen, Chief of Staff of Handprint
A C-level leader within sustainable SAAS company, Handprint, Mimi is inspired by the regenerative power of positive impact, both in her personal and professional life. Impact begets impact.
“In your journey to the top, don’t forget to look behind and inspire young generations to become even greater leaders than you are. I’m empowered everyday by my founders and team mates, clients, partners. We all believe that every one of us can change the world together.”
Dr Sandhya Sriram, CEO & Co-founder of Shiok Meats
For Dr. Sriram, in order to create a better world for humans, animals, and nature alike, it all starts with empowering those with great ideas on how to make the world a better place.
“Go for it! You will never know until you try – a small idea can change the world! I think championing female empowerment and sharing achievements go beyond a single day but IWD is definitely a time when people can come together and make constructive resolutions to #breakthebias and grow together.”
