What founders say about Sleek

“I was recommended Sleek when setting up my company and the team has helped me every step of the way. They are always available to answer my questions in great detail and help out with all kinds of situations. I definitely recommend jumping on board with them.”
Jordan L. | Director
Jordan
“I’ve already recommended Sleek to another founder, so that says enough. What I’d add: if you’re starting your first solo company and the administrative side feels opaque, Sleek removes a lot of that friction. You’ll get straight answers, and the team stays on top of your file.”
Benjamin F. | Business Founder
“Sleek has just made my life so much easier. They are always on hand to solve problems, explain anything, & generally make self employment so much less stressful. Toby Denwood has always been so quick to respond to all my questions, however basic.”
Woodward | Sole Trader

Helpful Reading on Accounting for Startups

Our startup accounting does more than file your year-end accounts. Sleek runs your bookkeeping, Corporation Tax, VAT, & Payroll on SleekBooks, our in-house connected accounting software; supports your SEIS/EIS and R&D claims, and gives you a dedicated accountant, all on a fixed monthly fee, from £60/m.

Prefer Xero? Try our Pro Plan, or as an optional add-on to Basic.

FAQs on choosing an accountant for startups in the UK

What is included in startup accounting?

A startup accounting plan covers bookkeeping, year-end accounts, your Corporation Tax (CT600) return and confirmation statement filing, with VAT and payroll added on the Pro plan. Sleek runs the Basic plan on SleekBooks, our connected accounting software, and the Pro plan on Xero, with a dedicated accountant either way. The small profits Corporation Tax rate is 19% on profits up to £50,000, which most early-stage companies fall under.

How much does a startup accountant cost?

Sleek’s accounting starts from £60 a month on the Basic plan, billed annually, with the Pro plan at £100 a month for funded startups that need VAT, payroll and investor reporting. There are no setup fees and book migration is free. Pricing is fixed, so unlike hourly high-street firms you know your full-year cost before you sign.

Do you handle SEIS/EIS and R&D claims?

Yes. We support SEIS and EIS advance assurance and the compliance filings that follow your raise, plus R&D tax relief claims under the merged scheme that began on 1 April 2024. Loss-making R&D-intensive startups can claim up to 27% under the ERIS rate, and SEIS gives your investors 50% income tax relief on up to £200,000 a year, which makes your round easier to fill.

Do I use SleekBooks or Xero?

It depends on your stage. The Basic plan runs on SleekBooks, which brings invoices, bank feeds, documents and accountant collaboration into one connected place with AI-assisted admin and human accountant review, a good fit for new startups that are not yet VAT-registered. The Pro plan runs on Xero, and Basic users can add Xero as an option if they prefer it. Either way your dedicated accountant migrates your books for free.

When should a startup hire an accountant?

The best time is before your first raise or your first hire, not after the deadlines start landing. Getting your books, SEIS/EIS position and Corporation Tax registration set up early means you avoid the penalties and rushed cleanups that scare off investors. Many founders sign up at incorporation so the foundations are right from day one.

Do I get a dedicated accountant?

Yes. You work with a named UK accountant rather than a call-centre queue, so the person who knows your numbers is the person you speak to. They track every Companies House and HMRC deadline for you and flag issues before they become penalties, using live bank feeds rather than waiting for year end.

Is it suitable pre-revenue?

Yes. Many of our startup clients sign up before their first invoice, because getting SEIS/EIS and clean books in place early makes fundraising far smoother. The Basic plan on SleekBooks is designed for exactly this stage, and you can move to Pro once you take on VAT obligations or employees. If you are not incorporated yet, we can handle incorporation first.
